Former Moxham Bus Barns

Shaping the Future of johnstown, PA

Overview

Former Moxham Bus Barns

630 & 726 Central Avenue – North American Höganäs High Alloys, LLC

The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Johnstown (JRA) continues to make meaningful progress in revitalizing former industrial properties across the City. A key example of this success is the redevelopment of the former Cambria County Transit Authority bus barns — widely known as the Moxham Bus Barns — located at 630 and 726 Central Avenue.
JRA acquired the properties in July 2019 with a focus on long-term revitalization and economic reuse. At the time of acquisition, North American Höganäs High Alloys, LLC, a global leader in the production of high-performance metal powders and specialty alloys, was already operating as a tenant on-site. Since then, JRA has worked closely with Höganäs to support its continued presence and investment in the Moxham community.
Over the years, JRA has carried out regular maintenance and property improvements to stabilize and enhance the buildings. These efforts paved the way for a broader environmental remediation initiative, supported by a $472,000 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfields Multipurpose Grant.

The grant funding enabled critical environmental work, including:

  • Environmental site assessments to evaluate and document site conditions
  • Remediation of environmental concerns identified during assessment
  • Permanent closure of two registered underground storage tanks and associated piping/dispensers at the Cambria Transit Authority–Höganäs site

The transformation of the former bus barns site reflects JRA’s commitment to returning underutilized industrial properties to productive use, supporting local jobs, and protecting community health through responsible redevelopment.
