Shaping the Future of johnstown, PA

Overview

From Blight to Bright – The Franklin & Main Makeover

Redevelopment Authority Awarded $233,510 Community Initiatives Grant for Blight Elimination

The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Johnstown has been awarded a $233,510 Community Initiatives Grant from the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies to help eliminate blight along Franklin Street and Main Street. The grant will fund a combination of facade improvements and strategic demolitions aimed at revitalizing these key corridors. This investment marks an important step in enhancing the appearance, safety, and economic potential of downtown Johnstown.

As part of the initiative, facade improvements and painting were completed at the St. Vincent de Paul buildings on Franklin Street, helping to restore the character and charm of the area while encouraging further investment and pride in the neighborhood.

One of the properties targeted for demolition was the former Robert’s Pub, located at 224 Main Street. The newly cleared site will be transformed into a community gathering space and parklet, creating a more welcoming and vibrant area for residents and visitors alike. The Redevelopment Authority is also actively pursuing additional grant funding to further beautify the parcel, enhance its appeal, and make a lasting positive impact on the downtown landscape.

This project reflects a broader commitment to community revitalization, public engagement, and the continued transformation of Johnstown’s urban core.
